A Queer Luck
A downloadable book
Looking into excavating lost histories, narratives and mythologies of queerness. How we might use illustration as a method of creating greater accessibility to queer history. What is the effect and place of myth and legend within communities, and what might that be for the queer community?
Exploring the two lines of talismans, those for luck and protection and the history of queer mythology, the demonisation of queer identities through history and their positioning within folklore and alongside the fantastical and transfigurative. This was partly an excuse to explore historical art forms and folkloric imagery which I love, as well as delve deeper into queer history.
I wanted to see what it might be to make my own queer luck, so I began to synthesise charms, like a potion, brewing together different elements to produce something new. Touchwood tokens made from cypress in the shape of a bear, lucky coins dated with significant queer history. Also including bits of mythology; the homoeroticism of St. Sebastian, the rabbit deity Tu’er Shen.
This is also a project that I want to open up to being collaborative, if you have any thoughts or new combinations shoot me an email at eve-archer@hotmail.com
